The Catfish were even hard to come by, 8 hrs brought me one small Channel, but the beer was going down good, there was a big hatch of Mayflys, and an odd lack of mosquitoes so it was still a pleasant evening. I hit that same water for a night float about the time you did and yep, serious chocolate milk, but a tiny bit better than the week before. He doesn't know why but I wonder if it has anything to do with the sewer plant's discharge? Per my Muskie junkie neighbor, that stretch up and down from the Yates ramp is the worst of the Mud. Good luck, there is nothing quite like catching a musky out of nowhere, and if you stick with it, IT WILL HAPPEN. I won't fish water above 78 but I have a couple places somewhat local that are fishable.

Lastly, just a suggestion, but looking into and getting a sink tip fly line will do wonders in helping you get that fly down in the zone a lot quicker, and will let you work a fly faster while keeping it down. Try different stripping patterns, long slow strip followed by two quick strips and a pause, for instance. With flies, yes you can get different action but they still are what they are IMO. clip a new bait on that walks, or thumps, or whatever you want. With hard baits, its easy to switch up presentations. Funny thing with musky fishing is I don't know if it's coincidence or local feedback from the fish, but we throw them a lot lol.Īnother thing to consider is in your retrieve. Pretty easy setup and quick to change out snaps if necessary. Now I tie a perfection loop on both ends of a 14-18" 100 lb segment of fluorocarbon and then I just put a staylok snap on. We started out by using those rio leaders, but have found issue with the 7.5 leader in getting a good figure-8 (over half our fish caught in the 8). View Member Profile Send Email Find Member's Topics Find Member's Posts DrArbo I know musky fishing is supposed to get really good in the fall so I'm pretty excited to try it out. If anyone has fished the area or has any great tips for musky fishing in general and would be willing to share them with me I'd appreciate it very much. As I said before, I was fishing structure and pockets but with no success. The leader ran to an 8wt WF floating fly line on an 8wt rod and large arbor reel. I had a straight 7.5 ft 20 lb Rio Toothy Critter leader with a snap swivel at the end to make it easy to swap flies out. I was throwing a Nightwatchmen since the water was chocolate milk and I thought the black and purple of the fly would be my best bet considering what else was in my box. Even knowing this I was hoping someone might be able to give me some insight into how I should be fishing for them and what kind of set up I should be using. I've read some of the past posts on older forums on here and it seems that some of the best stretches of water are from Milton to the mouth of the river in Barboursville. This was a fairly impulsive float and I've been wanting to explore the Mud for awhile since it's so close to me, but it really drove home the point that I know absolutely nothing about musky fishing lol. So I wasn't really expecting much and nothing much is exactly what I got. The water was extremely dirty, my fly wasn't visible after sinking maybe a foot or so, and it was the middle of the day. A few weeks ago I put my kayak in at Yate's Crossing and paddled upstream a bit, stopping to make casts into pockets and around structure. I live in Milton and I've always heard the Mud was a great place to fish for Musky.
