To remove those limits costs $30 on either platform. You can try it out free, or rather for the price of an email address, but that limits you to exporting one image at a time and puts a watermark on your photos.

It does require Windows 8 or later or macOS Sierra. Unfortunately, it's not a modern Windows Store app, but rather a less-secure Win32 program. You can see most of Photolemur's magic by installing its free download version. Since 1982, PCMag has tested and rated thousands of products to help you make better buying decisions. ( See how we test everything we review (Opens in a new window).) And an unreleased Photolemur correction in the works, automatic horizon straightening, is already available in Apple Photos. Many of these abilities, along with automatic red-eye fixing, already come free with the Windows Photos app. As needed it can perform color recovery, exposure compensation, face retouching, foliage enhancement, JPG fix, natural light correction, noise reduction, raw file processing, sky enhancement, smart dehaze, and tint perfection. Photolemur's makers claim that it applies 11 types of correction. In this day of Instagram retouching, its lack of user-controlled image adjusters is simply too limiting. While I found that Photolemur did improve some photos, it wasn't significantly better than what you get free with your OS.

Like the Auto Tone button in Lightroom or the Auto Enhance buttons in Apple Photos or the Windows 10 Photos app, Photolemur does its darnedest to bring your digital images to optimal lighting, color tone, and more with just one click. Both apply to photo-enhancing app Photolemur. I've seen many attempts at one-button photo correction software, and I've seen many applications claiming to offer near-magical AI technology.

There’s even a "beautify" preset to enhance skin tone, enlarge eyes, whiten teeth and otherwise make your subjects look their best. Perfectly Clear Desktop decides what to do itself, but if you disagree then you can manually tweak your image exposure, depth, tint, vibrance, sharpening, noise removal, auto red-eye and more. Here you’ll see a much larger image side-by-side with its processed version. You can’t get an accurate idea of how well an image has been optimized from its thumbnail, of course, but double-click any picture and it’ll open in the Edit View. Images popped up much faster than we were expecting and the browser remained very usable. Displaying these dual thumbnails takes longer than a single image, but there are no lengthy pauses. Image processing can be CPU-heavy, and we thought this might reduce our system to a crawl, but the reality was a surprise. Instead, click a folder and the program displays "Before" and enhanced "After" thumbnails for whatever pictures it contains, helping you see at a glance what it’s going to do. Perfectly Clear Desktop doesn’t just present you with the original image. And on first launch, it displayed what looked like a conventional thumbnail browser - but there was a difference. After entering our email address, we downloaded and installed the program without issue.
